As you know, our school in South Sudan has been temporarily closed due to recent turmoil. The Seeds of Wisdom Board of Directors determined last Fall that we would seek ways to continue to support the children and families of Pukuka, many of whom we have located in Ugandan refugee camps.
For this academic year (which began in February in Uganda), we were able to provide scholarships that allow 43 of our former students to attend two Catholic boarding schools in Arua, Uganda. This not only keeps students on the path of education, but also protects them from the many difficulties of living in a refugee camp. We have located additional students and hope to grow the program next year.
The ongoing civil war and the escalating humanitarian crisis in South Sudan are heartbreaking to watch and this crisis is personal for us; we have met and spent time with these beautiful children, families and teachers. We know the faces and hearts of our friends in Pukuka and we know we must continue our mission to provide education and hope for the children and their families. Thank you for your continued interest and support as we move forward in the best way possible.
